AN-Y1 (pronounced ‘anyone’) was founded in 2022 by Creative Director sisters Anu Hinduja and Nandita Mahtani who were inspired by the iconic world of motorsport and Gulf Oil’s signature colour palette of duck egg blue, orange and ecru that dates back to 1913.
The inaugural collection embraces this long standing heritage, marrying elements of the sport’s famous grid girls with with standout hero pieces that encapsulate the ethos and aesthetic of the brands iconic motocross jackets in either butter soft leather or thick padded cotton with contrast sleeves in hues of duck egg blue, baby pink, vibrant orange, black and ecru.
The patterns and emblems that can be found on these exquisite jackets as well as throughout the collection hail from vintage racing jackets, with a typically oversized fit and in vibrant colour ways that replicate stand out styles from the most glamorous racing tracks around the world. The collection will be dropping in curated edits throughout the year, with Capsule 1 launching versatile boilersuits, leather pieces and oversized jackets, firmly establishing the brand’s DNA as the day to night brand women should have on their radar.
Inspired by Anu and Nandita’s global travels and the desire for versatile wardrobe separates that make a statement, AN-Y1’s debut line is aptly named The Monaco Collection after the duo were influenced by the Monte Carlo racing scene. Aiming to empower women of any age with their contemporary and effortless style, AN-Y1 is the new ‘it’ brand redefining sexy, luxe and easy to wear pieces.
Sisters Anu and Nandita have over 30 years experience in the fashion industry, having worked on seprate projects before coming together to launch AN-Y1 in 2021.
Originally studying interior design in London, Anu previously owned fashion boutiques in London’s Knightsbridge and Notting Hill before joining forces to start her own label with Nandita. Anu’s passion for interiors has remained a constant throughout her career, and she frequently curates art exhibitions in London, often collaborating with Indian artists.
Whilst Anu firmly established herself within the London scene, Nandita focused on the Indian market, building her name as the go-to resort wear designer with an impressive Bollywood following. Known for her mastery in cutting edge Indian embroidery, Nandita’s designs utilised traditional techniques and methods and subtly translated them into contemporary silhouettes seen on international catwalks across the world, including India and Australia.
